NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C – A tragic accident on I-526 in North Charleston, South Carolina claimed the life of 14-year-old Rolando Nunez Moreno on Friday night. Moreno was standing near a disabled vehicle on the shoulder of I-526 West at Exit 16A when he was fatally struck by an oncoming car around 8:12 PM, according to Charleston County Coroner Bobbi Jo O’Neal.

After hitting Moreno, the vehicle went airborne and crashed into a residence on nearby Ozark Street. No other major injuries were reported from the incident.

The North Charleston Police Department’s traffic unit is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident that led to Moreno’s death. Authorities have not released details about the driver or vehicle that struck the teenager.

Moreno’s family, friends, and community are mourning the tragic loss of his life at such a young age. The fatal car accident serves as a reminder about the importance of exercising extreme caution when exiting a disabled vehicle on a busy highway.
